Blessed Joseph Part 1
He called you from a sleep, and
You listened intently to each and every word, believing all you heard
It's our debt to you
Protector, foster father
They would be entrusted to your earthly care, with all its daily wares
It's our debt to you
And you wondered, at what these things could really mean
The oath you gave would, change the world for all eternity
It's our debt to you

Our Lady of the Underground - Blessed Joseph Part 2
It wasn't fair that I heard the words, but**
They all just fell on deaf ears for so long**
You had to flee the rage,
And underground you had to stay
You never walked away,
Just worked, watched, and prayed
And after all that happened,
There is only One to turn to, anyway
You fled your home and all you had known, but
Still you had all there was to ever own,
The barren ground would be your bed,
As you begged for the daily bread
You never walked away,
Just worked, watched, and prayed
And after all that happened,
There is only One to turn to, anyway
** this line specifically refers to my youth and own personal lack of understanding / full appreciation of the challenges that faced the Holy Family in the period right after Christ's birth, including the flight to Egypt. This specific line in no way is supposed to be from the perspective of St. Joseph. The rest of the lyrics are spoken of the plight that faced the Blessed Mother and St. Joseph in the early days of that first blessed Christmas season and culminated in the Holy Family living in an unfurnished cave in Egypt, half a league from Grand Cairo, for several years until the death of King Herod. It is this period of time that the Blessed Mother is generally referenced as Our Lady of the Underground.

Blessed Joseph Part 3
I wish more had been said, of your days
As simple as they were
Lifetimes could be spent, in the depths
Of thoughts that were all yours, of thoughts that were all yours
O to share in one day,
As you watched divinity mature
And the joy that you felt, knowing all
You quietly nurtured
But you'll not be distracted
As they searched through the city
For three days, for three days
'til at last they had found You,
In a place, full of grace
And as I draw my last breath,
Please be there, please be there
To lead me to the One you
Guarded always with care
And as we draw our last breath,
Please draw near, please be near
To lead us to the One you
Guarded always with care
But he'll not be distracted, he'll not be distracted...

Peter Johnston RVA Richmond, Virginia
To put it simply, Peter Johnston RVA is Catholic indie rock; you
wouldn't hear this at mass, but it does
try to prove that traditional Catholic thought and indie rock are not mutually exclusive. It began easily enough as a few home recordings but has slowly turned into a full on project that explores matters of human dignity and common good in society.
Sincerely yours,
Peter Johnston RVA
